What is an FAQ section? (Demo)
An FAQ section can be used to quickly answer common questions about you or your business, such as “Where do you ship to?”, “What are your opening hours?” or “How can I book a service?” It’s a great way to help people navigate your site and can even boost your site’s SEO.
I had one axle collapse and then a high probability that the other side will also collapse.
So I decided to replace both sides with a single axle. This was also the cheapest option. The new axle being £300 plus VAT. Then about £150 for fitting.
The reason the axle is in two sections is because of the keel box in the middle and by splitting the axle the trailer is about 2.5 inches lower. If you go for a single axle then the trailer will need to be raised by approx 2.5 inches. This is only an issue if you are launching from the trailer on a shallow slip.
The bolt holds to mount the axle to the trailer are standard spacings and so not difficult to get a new axle made up to measure. The important measurements for the new axle are.
Axle bolt hole to axle bolthole across the boat = 1580mm
Outer hub to Outer hub = 2000mm ( I actually went for 2070mm but this was a little too wide and wheels protrude slightly from mudguards.)
Tube end to tube end = 1670mm.
Mounting was fairly easy. We used a length of 2.5" square tube between the axle and the trailer. this meant the axle went under the keel box.
Also needed to make some changes to the brake assembly. A simple job with some new brake rods and a recut of the old brake balance bar.
The wheels are 4 stud 4" PCD
Just make sure that the old wheels will fit the new hub centre. I found the hub diameter slightly too small on the old wheels and so needed to get a new set of wheels and tyres.
