Boat Equipment
I converted to 3:1 jib sheets at the end of 2022. After 9 months of using them, I have received the thumbs up from all my different crew.
There is a slight extra friction in really light winds. But the benefits outweigh any pai. In those rare super light days.
Being asked how I rigged it up earlier today I thought a short note and photos could be helpful.
Requirement:
12metre 7mm dynema core rope (Dinghy lite or kingfisher evolution race)
2 x Harken 29c 29mm carbo air blocks
2x Harken T2 29mm carbo soft attach block
4 x soft shackles
A good knowledge of dynema splicing and tapering. Or access to youtube and some patience.
Eye splice tools
Needle and whiping twine.
Search YouTube for the technical details on hoe to do an eye splice and how to taper sheets.
Start by adding the taper at each end. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x62BoCSpReA
The distance I have from end of eye splice to taper is 75mm. So make sure that you have enough of the taper at each end to add an eye splice and end with distance from end of eye to tape of 75mm.

Total length of rope end to end after an eye splice in each end is 11Metres.

For blocks and routing see the photos.
The 3:1 makes pulling the sheets in much easier but you do have to be careful not to over tighten the sheets. Always calibrate the sheet tension by putting some marks o the deck.
